January 29, 2020 Dear Travel Partner: The Jamaica Tourist Board is pleased to report that there was no damage from the earthquake experienced on January 28, 2020. It is business as usual across the entire island. All is well. The earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 80 miles to the NNW of the north western coast of the island. While this was felt across the island, there have been no reports of damage. The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) has indicated that data from the Pacific Tsunami Warning Centre confirmed that the Tsunami threat period has also passed. Sangster International Airport and Norman Manley International Airport were not impacted and remain open. All resort areas are fully operational. The ODPEM in collaboration with the Metrological Service of Jamaica and the Earthquake Unit will continue to monitor activities around the island and provide updates as needed. We continue to value your partnership and look forward to seeing you in Jamaica soon. One Love, Donnie Dawson Deputy Director of Tourism/The Americas |
